Statement of Intent:
Senior Experience
  • What type of project will you be doing: youth internship, entrepreneurship experience,senior experience, or service learning? Senior Experience, Restoring a 1946 Farmall H
  • Describe the steps you will need to do to complete your project. The first step in my process will be to get the tractor running so I have an idea what I am working with. Next I will start taking the engine apart for replacement of gaskets. Then after I get the engine seals in I will start with other gaskets for example the ones for the back axle and on the hydraulic motor. I will also have to take the cover off the transmission to find out what the problem is. After I get that fixed I will be closer to the point of getting ready to paint after I double check to make sure I got all the leaks stopped. In the painting process I will have to start of by sandblasting everything on the tractor. Some pieces will be done separate from everything. Once I get it painted I will check everything over to makes sure I have it right, and to make sure it runs like its suppose to.
  • What subject(s) or topic(s) do you expect to learn about through your experience? Learn how to paint and restore an old tractor so I can do it myself in the future with any tractors I buy.
  • What skills or understanding will you develop and/or demonstrate? I plan to learn what it takes to fully restore an old tractor.
  • What kind of product do you envision? A older tractor that looks about as good as it did when it was new.
  • Where would you look for a mentor? In the local area looking for somebody with experience.
  • What do you hope to learn about yourself? I would like to learn what abilities I have that I can use in the future for painting and straightening the tin out if needed. Also to see what I can learn about the tractor.
  • What most excites you about your proposed Endeavor? I'm excited to work on a tractor that I liked when I was a kid. It was a fun little tractor to ride around on before we sold it to my great uncle.
